Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero was an American performer and model. Kotero was also a co-star in Prince's 1984 movie Purple Rain. Her most well-known role was co-starring in the 1984 film by Prince Purple Rain and for having been the singer in the group of girls Apollonia 6. The actress and singer was christened Apollonia by Prince and became one of a number of female artists throughout the 1980s that benefited through her relationship with the Purple One. Patricia Kotero, born 1959 in Santa Monica California began her career as a model and actress. In the late 70s she appeared on CHiPS. In 1984, she was cast as the role of the lead female in Prince's Purple Rain (during which time the singer switched her names) and became Vanity as part of the female-led trio Vanity 6 singing with them in the movie under the name Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter was not a huge achievement for the trio but she was able to make a larger success as Prince's duet companion in Take Me with You on the soundtrack. The relationship between Kotero and Prince came to an end when the duo disagreed on her career direction. Apollonia 6, the group that she belonged to, split. The singer appeared in several minor films during this time (reportedly not wanting to be in"The Purple Rain" sequel Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) after which she landed in the role of a nighttime television drama Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia dropped her first album in 1988, however it was a fairly pedestrian mix of dance and R&B music that didn't impress her fans. The album quickly disappeared in the shuffle. Her acting career continued (if it was somewhat off the under the radar) and appeared on TV in small performances, a few films, and a workout DVD. Apollonia produced a bilingual Spanish/English album that was titled Stay with Me, in 1997. After going back to college and obtaining her degree in filmmaking, she established her own production firm. Apollonia has many hats. She is a former model, singer actress and talent manager. She is famous for her performance in the movie Purple Rain. Her other films and television shows comprise Black Magic Woman, The Divorce Ceremony and many others. Kotero debuted her career as a model. Kotero was a participant in a variety of pageants and competitions. Kotero was named Miss San Pedro Beauty Pageant.
